M6 Introduction | 中文介紹
M6 Enterprise Linux (M6EL, or simply M6) is an set of integrated server kits based on CentOS (Community ENTerprise Operating System). M6 uses RPM (Red Hat Package Manager), the same package management system as CentOS. This makes it possible to use the vast open source resources from the Red Hat Enterprise Linux or Fedora projects on M6 directly. Proprietary softwares like Oracle that supports Red Hat based systems run on M6, too. Documentations, RPM resources that contributed by the community also works for M6. You don’t have to rebuild anything to switch to M6.
Why do we create and maintain M6, if it is a same system as CentOS and RHEL? Aren’t we “reinventing the wheel?” The answer is “no.” Though M6 can use most community resources directly, it is aimed at “integration.” Most of the open source resources are scattered over the internet. In addition to an integrated installer, by M6 we want to give you more content: full documentation, on-line package repository, case studies, and more. By M6 we want to deliver integrated services for personal and enterprise uses. At the same time, we would like to integrate these community resources and give them back to the community.
M6 Concept

System Integration
M6 offers system integration services. Users may deploy M6 in the shortest time. Users can quickly install extended applications from the internet, by which mass installation can largely be simplified. M6 also provides complete on-line information to ease the diagnosis of system administrators.
M6 can be incorporated with your products, creating added-values for different manufactures, sales agencies and service providers. With M6, there are more choices for your services and products.
Service Integration
Vast number of open source softwares resources are incorporated into enterprise applications. M6 offers many such mature open source projects like corporate email, calendar, CRM, project management, knowledge management, asset management, LDAP, etc.
Such corporate information may be “independent from one another.” As for CRM, if enterprises can obtain the project progress, past communication records, available documents of and for a specific client, they can become more competitive by quickly accessing these key information.
Function Customization
Over the past years open sources softwares grows vigorously all over the world, with different solutions in many different domains. For example, OpenOffice.org office applications, Apache enterprise-class web server, MySQL database system, and many more. M6 is an integration of all these major open source projects. But, as they are fully functional, they may not satisfy the requirement of individual customers without customization. M6 comes with a powerful and stable support team that offer you the customization you need.
M6 Targets

Through our rich on-line package repository, system administrators can install whatever package they want, at wherever they need, with no additional license fee. You may use M6 in your house, in corporations, schools and/or government units without restriction. Just tune M6 to fit your need after install. M6 is extremely flexible.
2. More Convenient
M6 Enterprise Linux offers a rich on-line package repository with an administrative interface that is more convenient than ever. System administrators can easily manage their server through graphical user interface. M6 also has rich on-line documentation, on-line FAQ, forum and announcement channels for your maximal convenience. They are all integrated by our M6 developers. As a user, all you have to do is: install, configure, and use.
3. More Secure
Aside from the periodically on-line security updates, M6 gives you the newest applications upon release. System administrators can update their server to the current version at once. Besides, M6 gives you several additional security packages pre-installed. You have advanced protection at once.
4. More Speed
M6 Enterprise Linux uses the lightweight desktop environment LXDE. We focused on the server and application integration, and removed most unnecessary desktop applications. M6 consumes far less system resources. You may finish more jobs with even lower hardware equipments.
5. More Compact
M6 Enterprise Linux CD is less than 1GB. You may download and save your M6 CD image more easily. Most installation and updates are done through the net. You only need to install what you want. 3.7GB CD images are no longer exists.
6. More Possibility
Besides the CentOS-common packages, we searched and gathered many service-centered free software applications for you. They are packaged as RPM in M6’s application repository. We want to have more possibility for M6 and give you more choices.
M6 in the Future
In the future, M6 Enterprise Linux will have open M6 Cloud platforms, gathering experts from community and open source developers and offer virtualization applications. We will offer low-cost solutions for cross-platform interoperation and cloud application, to fit the particular IT needs for different enterprises.
